Palisades Fire Anniversary

Chimney Yard – Pacific Palisades, CA

On January 7, 2026 House Museum and Pacific Palisades community leaders gathered to commemorate loss and celebrate progress at the Chimney Yard, where six salvaged chimneys are being temporarily stored.

The gathering included opening remarks and a panel discussion on the importance of memorialization and our collective role in the process of recovery. Together, we honor those affected by the fires while raising funds for the in-process Palisades Fire Memorial.

Panelists Evan Curtis Charles Hall, Jack Hillbrand, and Lyra Kilston explored how memorials have evolved from heroic monuments to reflective spaces, and how the Palisades Fire Memorial pioneers a new era that transforms architectural ruins into teaching tools—preserving not just memory, but environmental knowledge.

Together, we experienced a glimpse of what a memorial is for.

What's next?

Each year on January 7, House Museum opens the memorial to neighbors, fire survivors, civic leaders and scholars. We gather to honor what was lost, mark the progress of recovery, and think together about how a community remembers.

The annual gatherings will include a forum for guest historians, architects, climate and disaster researchers, and wildfire safety experts to share their work with the people living through recovery. Scholarship on memory sits beside practical knowledge about fire, materials and building more safely, because how we remember the fire is shaping how we rebuild.

Second anniversary gathering Thursday, January 7, 2027. Free and open to the community.

So this gathering of chimneys can stand for us.

It can help us to commemorate—to remember together.
